what does everyone think of adding a combo box someware in site settings ware one can choose which timezone everything is viewed in?
this includes boards, ZBP, and all the other features of this site?
I thought the admins said something about this couldn't be done before due to somehow of how the database was written, and I seem to remember this comeing up before.
Not sure how many were for it, but thought I'd bring it up.

It can be implemented certainly, a users time zone is just number of hours (or half hours) added to, or subtracted from, the time a certain post was posted, which is stored in the database, however I really don't see the point in such an exercise, not for all the code changes that would be required to implement this.

just would be something a nice little extra.

it would be pretty cool. maybe it can be shown as a field in the user's profile, current local time or something.

I like the idea. It may not be worth it if it would require a lot of extra coding, but in general, I think it's a good idea. It would be nice to see things on the site in our own time zones.

yeah go for it, I've already thought about things like that!

Well, see, the funny thing is that whoever lives on the West Coast (like me) can log in at nine PM and get my points for the next day, play the new anagrams and all that good stuff that people on the East Coast don't get to do until midnight. Seems kinda like you're cheating the system by doing that, but I don't know, maybe not... However, I do think it would be nice if we could set our time zone to our proper time.

I don't think that's cheating, since they get the same 24 hours to find as many words as possible, just like someone in Australia or Europe would. What I think we should do, since I remember something about not having the ability to easily do this, is just set the system to gmt and leave it there. That way, people can just adjust acordingly and it won't change with daylight wastings time here in the US.

Yeah, setting the system clock to GMT wouldn't be a bad idea.

And someware, find a way so that people can tell how many hours they are off of GMT. I think eastern is 5, Centurl is 6, pasific is 8.

i think this is good. like the idea of users local time displayed in there profile. :). and time zones are a brilliant idea, let's face it i have no clue about time zones, america or otherwise. at least you'd have a better understanding of what your friends may be doing at that time
